rhymes with spears...

a couple of years ago, whilst studying in photography at university, i went to visit the photographers gallery. i went just to have a look around, and straight away i was drawn too vee speers collection entitled the birthday party. the collection was based around her daughters dressing up box, designed to evoke memories of her own childhood.

the images of the children are very disturbing and eerie, leaving you with an uncomfortable feeling which in turn could lead to a certain conclusion or even hold an option against them.

even though these images, or in fact the purpose behind speers collection is not directly linked to my own work, it gives me a good ground of understanding behind why people produce certain work and how it ends up. the fashion/clothing used gives a different twist, an element i find endearing.
its interesting to see a different point of view behind a child's decision on dressing up, and as an adult see's it.

i hope its not too late

today i had a massive panic. i forgot to load the cover sheet to my SOI!!! i still dont know if i will be okay, but i hate not doing things right, im am defiantly a person that panics, also the deadline. i got so confused and can only pray that things were done in time.

my research file is getting ever so slightly but slowly bigger. i need to do sooooo much more. i have done a lot of research but i have not put it together, plus i like to add a bit of flavour to my work. a bit of masking tape and letraset to jazz it up will do.

tomorrow, the aim is to do much more of my file. however, for now, i will leave you with some amazing vintage clothes, fashioned by Lara Blair on her blog " Vixen Vintage", i have come across today. I LOVE her 50s style, i wish  could pull it off, check out her blog

new but old

whilst researching further into vintage clothing as a trend, i came across these images from trendhunter.com.

although these images are not vintage, they do look it.

these will be helpful when putting together another vintage mood board, but centred along "new" vintage.

iD please.....

as well as articles, questionnaires and books etc, im looking at a collection of fashion and retail magazines. my absolute favourite is iD magazine. i have used these throughout college, university and back to college again and they have never failed me.

they supply me with amazing street images, gorgeous studio shoots, factual interviews and superb fashion info, so why wouldn't i use them. so here is a taster of the covers.

some sun with some work

just got back from a long weekend in the sun, and now its back down to earth with some hard core working. i have yet to get going with my research book, done some things but not a lot. i am dedicating this week purely to work of my research book and get loads done.

i have collected a load of online research from articles and data so i will print this off and put into my book. the numbers of my online questionnaire has risen to 80 people and 199 views. i really want to get to a round 100 people but this has been an amazing way for me to research.

i will keep you updated but for now, easter lunch. later, research

oh writing, i dislike you

i started and finished off writing my statement of intent and presentation for my final major project today. i have come to the conclusion that i don't like writing. give me some letraset, masking tape and a pile of iD magazines and ill be happy.

however, i have finished it now, just need it to be checked by the lecturer, making sure that its okay and satisfactory and im away with the project, yes!

just checked how long i got to do this project, and its not long, thats for sure. i need a rocket up my bum.

right, im off to do some research now. dad got me 4 newspapers from london today, so that is my evening sorted

vintage for topshop

well after a load of research, over 60 people completing a questionnaire, and looking into online stats of topshop, asos and ebay, i came to the conclusion of vintage clothing being sold on topshop website as my fmp final idea.

i was going to created a sort of ebay set up for topshop, similar to asos's marketplace. the results from my questionnaire lead me down the vintage route. when asked the question, "what is topshop's website missing?", 17% said the ebay set up was what topshop was missing, where as 40% said selling vintage clothing online was what is needed.

another point to make, is i wanted to know how well the asos marketplace has been since its launch, to help to decide which route to go down. i then went onto a website which looks into the site information, and one thing stood out. when the visitors are on the asos website, only 1% visit the marketplace. very interesting.......

so here is my idea of vintage clothes being sold on topshop's website. it is a photoshop image of what i would like the website to look like with my idea. so here goes.....

take a peek... its roversi

in 2007, whilst studying photography at uni, i went to a fashion photography exhibition in london called the face of fashion. it was in the national portrait gallery and figured photographers such as; Mario Sorrenti, Steven Klien, Corinne Day, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and finally, the photographer i was most inspired by was Paolo Roversi.

his work inspired my mine then, and it is doing it now too. although the images aren't vintage they sure do look like they are.

they are beautifully created using sepia tones, blurriness and unusual fashion pieces

molly grad, the way to my heart

researching for my comp shop in the FRA i came across the amazing molly grad. she is a fashion illustrator and designer and her work has featured in style.com amongst others.
she has a book out and can even be reached by the wonders of facebook.

i adore her work. this is the illustration that grabs and holds my attention the longest, it is beautifully weird. it shows the models in very couture poses and strikingly ugly duckling faces which just come across as delicate and unqiue.

if ever you want some fashion illustrtaion inspiration, look no further than molly grad. she has helped me to become inspired in photography, fashion and art.

how about some old pics with new twist

to help figure out about the whole idea of vintage as a concept for my fmp for topshop i went back into my past. before the london's fashion retail academy came a photography diploma. my last project was all about new age fashion of children's clothing, and the children themselves being "pimped" out.
i used old photos of children and clothing, around 1800's, and used modern materials to "sexualise" them.
just more info to help me, want do you cool kids think?

its not my intention for these images and their clothing to help me with my range, just a little more inspirational images to keep the idea in the front of my mind, keeping me going

the images are 3d, but i took a photo of them. i used lace, sequins and feathers. i used a "toy camera" software to make it look a bit more "unique."

the retro research begins

today is the first day of retro researching for my project. i have decided to look further into Topshop having a vintage section on their website, after the results of that questionnaire i posted yesterday. by the way, please do continue helping me and fill it in, cheers.
sooooooo at the mo im just looking into vintage items, maybe future ranges, general knowledge and images. anything to help me.

i raided my wardrobe, as i am a vintage fan and came across a couple of items. i just took a few snaps for your approval, what do you think???? i haven't photographed it on myself as im no kate moss, so forgive me. coming up...... more inspirational images

sequins once again, 30 years ago they must of been everywhere. this was brought the same time as the bottom piece in beyond retro in london
although this is technically not vintage, its topshop, it kinda looks retro and unique. gold sequins and mesh makes its a statement piece.
this sequinned cape i got from a vintage shop in london, beyond retro, about 3 years ago.

welcome to the world through my crocheted eyes

today i started my first ever blog. i have never even studied the art of blogging in great detail before today so forgive me if everything looks pete tong. the idea behind my blog is to help me research fashion concepts for my fmp at the fashion retail academy. so from now on inspirational images will be bombarding these pages.

i had a thought! what about a marketplace style option for topshop's website? lets look into this........... vintage clothing, upload and sell your own clothes and accessories....... showcasing emerging designers..... keep going..... cheaper, think about the recession and accuring to trend hunter, vintage is so ss11.
